New GPA Altec crossover with 511B horn and 4ohm woofer

I evaluate to use a pair of Acoustic Elegance Dipole 15 inch woofers per side/ dipole speaker, with a Z of 16ohm and wire them in parallell to get 8 ohm and use the GPA Altec crossover.

The woofer effciency is 90dB per W.

Any problem here?

Would any recommend this passive crossover compared to a cheap active Behringer 2496?

The alternative is to use an active Behringer 2496 crossover, but I am not sure that the sound quality will be good enough (higest high fidelity). Any input here ? Alternative active crossover ?

This is a better option overall due to the AE?s abysmal efficiency.


No experience with the 2496, but I seriously doubt it or any other prosound unit is going to qualify for highest fidelity without significant mods.


No experience AFAIK with high end active XOs, but I?ve heard/read a lot of good reviews of Marchand Electronics products over the decades.

Hmm, in theory you just change out some components, but this assumes that the AE has a similar frequency response to a 416/515 out to at least 1200 Hz, so the N1200-8A may/may not match up to the AE properly.

Assuming you don?t need 200 W of power handling capability down low, then with each VC being 8 ohms, just use only one and either short the other for max dynamic braking or wire a pot across it to use it to dial in the system Qt.
